Many of us are presently trapped. We are trapped in a mind made sense of self. This mind made sense of self is always much more focused on the negative than the positive. That helps feed the ego and keep it alive and going. If the ego finds something it opposes, something or someone, it feels strengthened in its opposition. The ego needs its enemies. It needs to be right constantly telling others how they are wrong. It enhances itself by making others wrong. It enhances by criticizing, condemning, by continually judging not only other people, but other places.

It dwells on the negative much more. You may even realize in your own life, a positive event that happens to you. Something simple. Let's say you see a beautiful sunset and you look at it and think how wonderful it is. When you look at it with no judgement and awe of its beauty, there is no ego there. The ego is out of the way and there is just an aware presence. Thought has subsided only momentarily. Then the ego and the thoughtfulness in a flash turns into a simple awareness. However, the ego can come in and play mind tricks telling you, "yes that sunset was beautiful", and you'll forget it the next day. Now take for example a day later someone was rude to you. You'll never forget it.

It is amazing how a negative thought proliferates much easier than the positive. It's funny because you sometimes listen to others tell someone what another person has done to them that has damaged their ego. It's like a universal language. There's always a common denominator of I am always right and they are wrong. Then the ego misinterprets people and events according to their conditioning.

The ego is associated with the voice in the head that continuously operates in you. For most people that voice in their head is who they think they are. They are that entity. The entity speaks through them. You can see it when you observe people. They're in the "grip" of something when they talk. They can't even help it, they just do it. Again, what they say depends on their conditioning. The fact that every culture can't stop thinking and speaking is proof of how common it is to human conditioning. When you speak to them, it's almost as if this human were taken by something and is usually the case.

In evolutionary terms, it's been a wonderful thing to think. That's an enormous revolutionary step forward. The ability to conceptualize is incredible. However, with this incredible tool had come a huge downside with it just like everything else in this universe. Everything you receieve as a great thing always has a downside. We live in a world of polarities. The downside for the ability to think, centuries and millennia, more and more people began trapped in the movement of thought. When I say people, I mean consciousness which became completely trapped in the conceptual image making mind without moving it. Most humans these days, except those going through the awakening process, most are completely identified with their conditioned mind.

The awakening begins when this very simple thing called becoming aware of your thoughts occurs, especially repetitive thoughts. You suddenly realize certain thoughts have been going through your head for the past ten to twenty years. Comments, interpretations, and not only thoughts, but emotions that accompany those thoughts. The emotion in many cases is the reflection if the thought. If you worry at night, you feel fearful because your body reacts to the thought that there is something wrong, that you are in danger. In reality you're in bed, warm and cozy. However, your mind is telling you whatever thought you have is a critical situation and if you're not worried now you will be soon.

You truly believe that moment of thought. Every thought that arises says, "worry because this is very critical and not going to work out." Meanwhile your body again says your in danger. Fear arises and the emotion further amplifies the fearful thoughts. It is a vicious circle. First they create the emotion, then a reactive emotion, followed by another thought to keep it all going.

Become completely present in the now. Become internally aligned with the present moment. There will be a time when within you when you become aware of what your mind is saying and doing-awareness. The moment you are able to step back and realize these are just thoughts, you're awakening. There is the movement of thought. The awakening is when you realize that there is a gap between two thoughts. You have not disappeared. In the gap of two thoughts, there is something else that is much deeper than the ego.

There is no mental commentary anymore. There is a deeper dimension to you that suddenly emerged. We can call that stillness, presence, and awareness. Be conscious and that will give you the true deeper meaning of who you are-more than the ego ever will.
