Need to put some money in your pocket in summer? You’re not alone. Luckily, summer time usually leads to a lot of job openings because college students only stay in town for nine months of the year. If you go to one of the best online colleges, you can stay right where you are and fill one of the open positions. Here are a few to keep in mind.
Lawn Mower
If you don’t mind working out in the heat, you could make pretty decent money mowing lawns. Most lawn care companies will hire people for 50% more than minimum wage, which will vary based on where you live. All you have to do is mow lawns, trim bushes, and do general lawn duties like that. Lawn care people always look for employees during the summer because that is when most of their customers need the mot help. You can find a job like this pretty easily.
Shelf Stocker
The summer is a time when a lot of stores shift their inventories. This opens up the doors for new shelf stockers. You won’t have to go through much training to do this job, and you should make a little more than minimum wage at it. This could be just enough to get you through the summer.
Babysitter
Since grade school is out for the summer, you will see a ton of babysitting jobs opening up in your area. As long as you can prove that you work well with kids and that you can be trusted, you could do well as a babysitter. Babysitting would still allow you to take online college courses throughout the summer if you needed to because kids won’t always need you to play with them. You’ll just have to figure out if you actually want to take classes in the summer.
Tutor
Some students use their summers to catch up on classes they struggled with during the school year. This makes the summer the perfect time to work as a tutor. You can help the kids going to summer school or the ones looking to get ahead for next year. It’s just a matter of finding the students to work with.
Mover
Moving companies lose a lot of workers during the summer because of the heat. If you don’t mind heavy lifting and working in the heat, you could make some good money in this field for the summer. You may have to go through a brief training course about how to properly move someone else’s property, but then you’ll be on the way to a great paycheck for the summer.
Janitor
This may be a dirty job, but it’s fairly easy and it pays well. Almost every store, conference center, school, and office building in your area is going to need cleaning services of some kind, so you will have no problem finding work as a janitor. You just have to suck it up and deal with the stench that may come your way at work.
Deliverer Pizza
Delivery is actually a dangerous job, but it could be worth the risk if you get paid well. Your base pay may be minimum wage, but you will also make tip money and money for the amount of mileage you put on your car. Just apply to the pizza places in the area and see what happens.
Camp Counselor
Summer camps are almost always in need of responsible counselors. Note the word responsible. If you’re a total slack ass, don’t expect to get hired for this kind of work. If, however, you can prove yourself as a leader and role model in the community, you should be able to pick up work as a camp counselor.
Pool Cleaner
Since people use swimming pools all summer, they need other people to take care of them. That’s where you could come in. This may take a little training, but once you learn the ropes, the job will be a breeze. You may even catch a glimpse of the occasional hottie tanning by the pool. You can’t complain about that.
Dog Walker
This is a “ruff” job, but I think you can handle it. Look at you; you just survived one of the worst jokes in history. I think you’ll live. Dog walking is not a consistent source of money, and there is no guarantee that you could even find work like this in your area. If you can though, you could make pretty good money just walking dogs during the day.
