#Naggar Castle is a unique medieval mansion made of wood and stone built in local architecture named Kathkooni. The castle in its courtyard has a temple called “Jagti Patt” which is revered as the judgement seat of Kullu.
Naggar, the royal seat of #Kullu state remained its capital for 1460 years. It is traditionally believed to have been built in 16th century. The stones were brought from Gharhdek of Baragarh across the river #Beas. Main doors of the castle have been built by the use of Axe. The width of these one-piece doors clearly shows the massiveness of the trees cut. No metals were used in their fixing. Naggar castle was the headquarter till 17th century when Raja Jagat Singh transferred the capital to Sultanpur in Kullu. However, the castle remained as a summer palace for subsequent rulers until British took over the Kullu and Kangra region in 1846. They converted the northern wing to the European way of living by putting staircase, Fireplace and chimneys. They later used it as a courthouse.
