Enjoy Wat Tham Chiang Dao, Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, over 200 years old Thai temple, visit the beautiful of the distinctive pagoda and the beautiful other architecture and sculptures inside the temple.
Hello everyone. Area Doi Luang Chiang Dao, the 3rd highest mountain in Thailand (Height 2,275 meters above sea level). In addition to Chiang Dao cave, a beautiful and popular cave-style tourist destination in northern Thailand. There is still an old Thai temple in this area too. This temple is called Wat Tham Chiang Dao.
Wat Tham Chiang Dao or Wat Ban Tham is an old temple built around the year A.D. 1767 (256 years). And Wat Tham Chiang Dao received royal granting of the land to a particular temple by announcing in royal decree in the year A.D. 1971.
Last week, me and my wife visited several places in Chiang Dao District. Absolutely, we went to Wat Tham Chiang Dao and Chiang Dao Cave too. But in this post, I share stories and photos of Wat Tham Chiang Dao.
Me and my wife traveled from Fang District to Chiang Dao District. And I drove on bypass road in Chiang Dao District to go to Wat Tham Chiang Dao with my wife. Then, we traveled the rural road route. Most of the bypass and rural roads before reaching Wat Tham Chiang Dao are forested.
When we are close to Doi Luang Chiang Dao and Wat Tham Chiang Dao. We can see the arch made of cement, the roof of the arch is similar to the roof of the temple. And when we pass through this arch. I drove for a while, we arrived at Wat Tham Chiang Dao. Area the front of the road before reaching the entrance arch of Wat Tham Chiang Dao, there will be pillars above that are 2 lion statues on the left and right. And many electric pole above is a bird sculpture.
When we reached Wat Tham Chiang Dao, we parked our car at the temple's parking lot. The temple's parking lot is shady with many large trees.
Then, we went to see a pagoda that is over 100 years old. This pagoda is named Chedi 25 Yot, built around the year A.D. 1913. Chedi 25 Yod, style of one large pagoda and 24 smaller pagodas on the same foundation. All pagodas are Burmese-style bell-shaped pagodas, made of unpainted cement. Although the pagoda looks old, but I am fascinated by its beautiful and distinctiveness of the pagoda.
Then, we walked to a small pavilion. The pavilion looks old as well. This pavilion is called Porn Mongkhon. Inside the pavilion, there is a Buddha image. Behind the pavilion there is a white pagoda being restored. The white pagoda is named Phra Maha Chedi Rasamee Chamthewi Sriwichai.
On the side of the pavilion, there is an old ordination hall (ubosot). I'm not sure how many years this ordination hall (ubosot) was built. But I think ordination hall (ubosot) should have been built for a very long time.
Then, we walk to the Buddha image hall (viharn). The Buddha image hall (viharn) is over 100 years old in Lanna art style. Inside the buddha image hall (viharn), there are beautiful principal buddha image, many buddha statues and statues of monks.

Beside the buddha image hall (viharn) is a courtyard with several white emperor-style buddha statues surround the color gold buddha protected by the hood of the mythical serpent. These buddha statues look outstanding and beautiful.
Other areas of the temple are also decorated with colorful and beautiful paper lanterns. These paper lanterns are Lanna style paper lanterns.
In addition to visiting the beautiful architecture and sculptures. There are many mini restaurants with thai food cooked to order area the parking lot.
