Along with the new Reward Cards, they would release some new abilities as well which will be the focus of this article. I was waiting for this kind of abilities since Rebellion's Summoner Tactics was announced - an ability that both contains positive and negative effects, a double edged sword.

I am super glad that Splinterlands provided some names on where we can get an early peek of the new Rewards Card. I've seen quite a few of them but I think one creator that provided the most complete list is Bronzedrag0n Gaming as you can see on his video: "New Splinterlands Rewards Card Set Imminent!"

In this article, we will explore these new abilities, try to comment on both the good and bad parts, as well as to leak some cards that I heard would be released next week.

My First Impression to Corrupted Healing Ability.

Corrupted Healing Full.png

Corrupted Healing is the first on the list and found it both really good and confusing. The wording for it is "to allied units" which is very vague. Does that mean one monster or all? Whatever the answer for this question, I guess, we will know once we tried it.

Arachne Weaver.PNG

Corrupted Healing ability can be found in the new card, "Arachne Weaver," which also has both Poison and Scavenger abilities. The Scavenger ability is interesting because on Corrupted Healing, it says "1/3 of max health" so I am unsure if it's 1/3 of Arachne Weaver or the healed monsters. If it's 1/3 of Arachne Weaver's max health, then the Scavenger ability means it can increase that healing.

Note: I also see a good potential with Lorkus as the summoner. Scavenger + Life Leech + Corrupted Healing seems quite overpowered if the healing will be based on Arachne Weaver's max health.

My First Impression to Execute Ability.

Execute Full.png

Execute has a lot of good interactions. It would be good on Opportunity ability since their main target are the ones with lowest health monsters first. If there would be a Water Splinter monster with Execute ability, I feel like it would be really strong alongside Possibilus The Wise

Thanalorian Blade.PNG

An example of a monster that has this ability is Thanalorian Blade from the new Rewards Card set. He has Opportunity, Execute, Lookout and Trample. The abilities he has, I would say, are pretty strong. Opportunity and Trample are strong enough as a combo since he would target the lowest health monsters first and when he does the last hit on that then kills the monster, Trample ability activates making another attack. Execute does better making sure that the monster dies if the monster has 2 health left. This means that any monster at 6 health or lower will be in danger with Thanalorian Blade.

My First Impression to Mimic Ability.

Mimic Full.png

Mimic is an interesing ability and one that I feel like I would surely hate. So, I really like using monsters with Taunt, Tank Heal and Triage in my games. My opponent can then take these very useful abilities on their own ruining my game. This is a very strong ability especially since there's no wording that the per round gain is chance, meaning at round 2 and up, the monster with this ability has 100% chance of gaining new ability each round on top of the 25% chance if an enemy were able to attack it. This would be interesting to see and time will tell if this ability will either make it or break the game.

Olivia the Brook.PNG

Olivia the Brook is the one that was blessed with the Mimic ability and I have a feeling that her price would sky rocket if she isn't a soulbound rewards card. She is one of the most overpowered monster on the game on release having not only the Mimic ability, but Reflection Shield ability and Opportunity ability coupled with a magic and melee damage. Opportunity ability means you can place her on any position and she would be able to attack each round. If you got her, ALWAYS place her in the middle. If she can get Tank Heal ability from your opponent, you're all set. I just wished that they allowed her to get the Debilitation ability as well making her a double edged sword but since she cannot get Debilitations, then she's, by far, the strongest monster on the game.

My First Impression to Wingbreak Ability.

Wingbreak Full.png

This is a good ability to use in games where Flying ability would be important such as Earthquake rules of combat. On the other hand, I also see this as a negative at times because the ability never said, "This attack will always hit."

This means that a normal non-flying monster with Wingbreak ability, even though they would prioritize monsters with Flying ability, will always be at a disadvantage since Flying monsters can evade 25% of the attacks directed to it on top of the speed difference. Of course, this idea will not work when you have True Strike ability, using a monster with magic damage or in Aimt True rules of combat.

Night Reaper.PNG

My complaints though does not apply with the new Rewards Card, Night Reaper, a monster with magic damage and has multiple abilities like Flying, Wingbreak, Reflection Shield and Last Stand. Since she has magic damage, her attacks will always hit regardless of the opponent's speed and abilities, except when they have Phase ability. Her Flying ability means she would be really useful in Earthquake rules of combat, the rule of combat which Wingbreak ability would probably shine the most. The only problem is that this monster has very high mana cost so managing your mana cap would be a challenge. Other than that, she's a very solid monster, in my opinion.

My First Impression to Incendiary Ability.

Incendiary Full.png

Incendiary is another Debilitation that's going to be released next week. It doesn't have any positive effect and worse, not only the burning has a chance of spreading but also deals quite high. At 2 damage per turn, it's like adding poison on your team. Personally, I think this is was badly made and I am sure I would avoid any monster with this ability regardless of how strong it is.

While the burning can be cleansed, I see two big problems about it. First, the effect is the only one that would be Cleansed. Even if you Cleanse Incendiary this round, on the next round, it would still be applied. Second, Cleanse only applies to monsters that is on 1st position. This means if Incendiary spreads to your monster on the 2nd position, you cannot do anything about it. Then, it would spread to the 3rd position monster and so on and the only one you can only cleanse is the one at the 1st position. This makes this ability a really bad one, bad enough to make the monster unusable.

Khazi Conjurer.PNG

Khazi Conjurer is one of the leaked monster that has Incendiary debilitation. While it's damage boasts at 6 range with Piercing ability for a 2 mana cost monster, you need to make sure you end the game fast or else your whole team will die. Since he has Range damage, you would most likely put him at the back, which means you won't be able to cleanse the burning and will spread to your team for sure. I want to know and would be interesting to see how burning status interacts with Immunity ability. If the monster with Immunity ability is not affected by burning status from Incendiary, then you can place Khazi Conjurer at the last position, then beside him is a monster with Immunity ability like Revealer, if you have Lorkus or Dolfar Darflak as your summoner.

My First Impression to Weary Ability

I actually like this debilitation. I think it's balanced. I just hoped that they added a rule where after skipping a turn, the Exhausted status will be removed since the skip was technically a rest, resetting the chance to 10% again. The ability is not bad, but I think they could've made it more fun, both in concept and in game.

There was also no monster yet that was leaked for this ability so we would have to wait and see the monster that would be granted with this debilitation.

One thing I wanted to note though that if ever that monster has abilities that activate on their turn like Heal, Tank Heal, Cleanse or abilities like that, if their turn is skipped, I am sure these effects won't apply either, the same as when an opponent's monster has been affected by Stun ability.

My First Impression to Electrified Ability

Unlike Corrupted Healing ability, the wording in this ability is better. It says, "all allied units" which means every monster you have will be affected.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a monster in the new set that has this ability but given that he has a "Debilitations," the new term for the ability that has negative effects to your monsters only, then whoever the monster that will have this will surely have very high stats.

High stats with Debilitations reminds me of monsters like Nerissa Tridawn who has 5 magic damage and 9 health but no abilities. So, maybe this new monster will be like this but stronger.

Author's Note Banner.gif

I wanted to be clear that even though I have bad reactions, it doesn't always mean that the card will be bad. My good reactions also doesn't mean the card will be really amazing on release. This is because it would still depend on many factors, mostly, interaction between their Splinters and monsters. A good example of this is the Rebellion Summoners. Although a lot of them are good on paper, they are still bad once I've tried it. This is just my initial reactions on the cards and my opinions will surely change once I started playing it in Modern Ranked Format battles.

To end this article, let me leave you with some screenshot that I took from Bronzedrag0n Gaming's youtube channel. These are the leaks I got for now. Do not forget to leave a comment, like and subscribe to his channel. It has the most complete leaks I've seen so far so good job.
