A world of Chinese cabbage: unique winter landscape in northeast China
The streets of Shenyang, a typical city in northeast China, were covered by a special vegetable to help the local citizens to get over the long, chilly winter – Chinese cabbage.
As a matter of fact, in the past, when China's transportation and logistics were not that advanced, and people couldn't buy products around the world on their mobile phones, Chinese cabbage was the only staple winter vegetable for many people across northern China.
In autumn, people would dry them a little bit outdoors before stashing the vegetables in cottages or cellars during the winter so they would be better preserved.
