Cor Fragilis

¡Hola! Esta ocasión hice algo especial, un regalo para una amiga que hizo de modelo para crear esta ilustración que sinceramente me tarde demasiado en terminar por varias circunstancias que se escapan de mis manos. Como ya mencione es un regalo, pero a su vez aproveche la oportunidad de crear algo relacionado con Halloween como ya estamos en octubre.

Esta ilustración tiene un significado muy especial para mí, ya que intenta expresar un sentimiento de fragilidad, magia y misticismo y decidí llamarla Cor Fragilis que en latín significa (corazón frágil).

Ahora, ya con una idea más clara del concepto, pasemos a explicar el proceso que use para realizar esta obra.

Inspirado por la modelo, realice un boceto para crear las bases e inmediatamente comencé a rellenar con color la figura en capas inferiores y haciendo ajustes en el boceto. Por lo general suelo usar muy poco los pinceles tipo aerógrafos, pero esta vez quería crear el volumen de una manera diferente, así que los use más de lo que estaba acostumbrado y la verdad me gustó mucho, el resultado le da a la iluminación un toque más realista, algo muy importante porque quería que fuera una pieza que tuviera varias fuentes de iluminación.

Hello! This time I did something special, a gift for a friend who served as a model to create this illustration that honestly took me too long to finish due to several circumstances that are out of my hands. As I mentioned it is a gift, but at the same time I took the opportunity to create something related to Halloween as we are already in October.

This illustration has a very special meaning for me, as it tries to express a feeling of fragility, magic and mysticism and I decided to call it Cor Fragilis which in Latin means (fragile heart).

Now, with a clearer idea of the concept, let's explain the process I used to make this work.

Inspired by the model, I made a sketch to create the bases and immediately began to fill the figure with color in lower layers and making adjustments to the sketch. I usually use airbrushes very little, but this time I wanted to create the volume in a different way, so I used them more than I was used to and I really liked it, the result gives the lighting a more realistic touch, something very important because I wanted it to be a piece that had several sources of illumination.

Haré un pequeño paréntesis para aclarar unas cosas, no sé en qué punto se me ocurrió ponerle alas a una bruja, pero lo hice de una manera desprolija para que se viera como herida o que ha pasado por muchas cosas y son sostenidas por ganchos que las perforan como si fuera un ornamento teatral.

Seguimos con el proceso. Me tomo algo de tiempo pulir la idea, sobre todo con los brazos y manos, que tuve que rehacer varias veces porque no me gustaba el resultado. Quería que estuviera sosteniendo su corazón en la mano, pero no de una manera tétrica o sangrienta, sino más poética, reflejando su fragilidad, al parecer de cristal que emite una luz cálida que contrasta con la luz fría del fondo que realice con variaciones de pinceles con textura para crear un toque como pintura tradicional de un paisaje boscoso nocturno.

I will make a small parenthesis to clarify a few things, I don't know at what point it occurred to me to put wings on a witch, but I did it in a sloppy way so that it would look like a wound or that it has gone through many things and are held by hooks that pierce them as if it were a theatrical ornament.

We continue with the process. It took me some time to polish the idea, especially with the arms and hands, which I had to redo several times because I didn't like the result. I wanted her to be holding her heart in her hand, but not in a gloomy or bloody way, but more poetic, reflecting her fragility, looking like glass emitting a warm light that contrasts with the cold light of the background that I made with variations of textured brushes to create a touch like a traditional painting of a nocturnal wooded landscape.

Use alrededor de 4 capas distintas en modo ADD GLOW para crear las luces, así tenía más control de cada una de ellas, al sentirme satisfecho las uní todas en una separando en 3 capas el personaje principal, las alas y el fondo.

Ya aquí terminé de renderizar y modificar para agregarle los detalles finales.

Al ya estar prácticamente terminada la obra cree una capa de balance de color para realzar un poco los tonos y contrastes, quería añadirle un efecto que se llama ABERRACIÓN CROMÁTICA, pero a diferencia de Photoshop, Clipstudio que yo sepa no tiene canales alfa o un filtro en específico para eso así que lo realice de forma manual uniendo todas las capas en una sola y cree 3 copias a las cuales ajuste con la herramienta niveles para que cada una representara un color en específico ROJO VERDE y AZUL en ese orden, a las capas rojo y verde las puse en modo Ligthen y esas mismas capas las moví levemente en direcciones opuestas para que diera el efecto que deseaba.

I used about 4 different layers in ADD GLOW mode to create the lights, so I had more control of each one of them, when I felt satisfied I joined them all in one separating in 3 layers the main character, the wings and the background.

Here I finished rendering and modifying to add the final details.

When the work was almost finished I created a color balance layer to enhance a little the tones and contrasts, I wanted to add an effect called CHROMATIC ABERRATION, but unlike Photoshop, Clipstudio doesn't have alpha channels or a specific filter for that, Clipstudio as far as I know does not have alpha channels or a specific filter for that so I did it manually joining all the layers in one and created 3 copies to which I adjusted with the levels tool so that each one represented a specific color RED, GREEN and BLUE in that order, to the red and green layers I put them in Ligthen mode and those same layers I moved them slightly in opposite directions to give the effect I wanted.
