So the time has finally come to take on the road from Gauteng province to Mossel Bay in the Western Cape, South Africa. We got up at 04hoo in the morning filled with great excitement, packed the last stuff in the car, jumped in the shower, 2 strong coffees later and we were ready for our first stretch (800km)of road.
The road took us out of the buzzing city of Johannesburg into country side of the Freestate Province in the center of South Africa.
I must be honest that driving through the Freestate with all its wide open spaces makes me feel so small but at the same time it makes me appreciate life like never before. With only the road lying stretched out in front of me, windmills, grazing cattle and the sun coming to greet the horizon really gives met time to reminisce about life. So for 800 km that was exactly what I did.....

This was our first stop of our journey......5 km from our house in Johannesburg. (LOL) We had to fill up with feul.

So we set our distance clock to the great zero and only time will tell how many kilometers this trip will hold for us.....tra-la-la!

Finally we are out of the city and driving south on the N1. We could clearly see that the Gauteng Province country side had plenty of rain and that everything was beautiful and green.

All along the road you see windmills, some old and rusted and then those more modern and fully functional. I took this photo more in the south of the Freestate.

No more fields of green. In this photo I wanted to show you the wide open spaces I keep talking about. I do think that this photo helps a bit.

Well it was a pretty long day of driving and we are 800 km closer to the coast. Tomorrow we will be entering into the Eastern Cape or as its known around here, the Karoo. Plans are to go and check out this very small and artistic karoo town called Nieu Bethesda aswel as Graaff Reinette.
But for now I think that its time for me to go jump in bed and get some sleep. We got a big day with plenty of driving that awaits us in the morning.

So cheers and good night my friends.
Chat tomorrow.
