Now you know! Episode #1; I'm an introvert because........
With each passing day being on Hive, I see more reasons why I should put out more written content than just my photographs. And I started doing this from yesterday. But I kind of started 2 days ago where I shared a post about me.
Based on the reactions I got, I thought to do it more often. So far, the relationships I've made on Hive are mainly because of my photography. They know Oh! He's a photographer, and his stuff is quite good. Beyond photography though, I live life like everyone else does, and I have life experiences. Experiences that I'll love to share in the hopes that you get to relate with me on a more personal basis than "He's a photographer".
Today, I'll sharing about a part of me that I always find a way to mention in almost all my posts; I'm an Introvert!
I was an introvert even before I discovered the word. Being an introvert wasn't a decision for me, the lifestyle was shaped for me right when I was still a kid. And as I grew older, I came to love the lifestyle.
As a kid, I was emotionally bullied. I was a big boy; big boy in the sense that I was "fat". And because of my size, I was often bullied with words that made me feel less of myself.
Aside from the verbal abuse, I couldn't get into the regular physical games that other kids participated in; especially football. Nobody wanted to choose the "fat guy" in their team as they felt I'd be a liability.
I faced this abuse both in school and in my neighborhood. The school was where it was worse though. My only recompense for the emotional torture was the fact that I was quite smart. My relevance was visible when it came to a test of intellectual abilities. But then, the emotional abuse had already started doing its work.
Since I knew I wasn't going to be picked to participate in sports or games, I'll rather be by myself. I stopped trying to make friends. The only friends I had where the ones who reached out to me. Some of them got close because of my brain value though.
As I grew older and got into high school, I tried again to get social, but I was subjected to the same emotional abuse I faced while I was in primary school. It was then I realized that nobody wanted me around. And I decided that I'll limit myself to myself.
I disliked birthday parties, in fact I hated all forms of social gatherings. My parents forcefully made me attend some parties, but I still didn't like it.
When they discovered that this was the kind of person I had become, they stopped trying.
I'm much older now, and I've been able to build mental and emotional capacity to absorb any form of verbal abuse as it relates to my size. But then, the deed had already been done. I'm an introvert now, and to be honest, I'm loving it. Being an introvert has got its own perks.
I've learnt how to create my own happiness within my space. I don't seek external validation to be happy, and I don't have to reach out either.
Some people say the introvert's lifestyle is selfish, and I quite agree. But I didn't choose to be this; at least not then.
Now, being an introvert is quite like a choice. I could decided to start being out more, but I don't just feel the vibes outside. On some special days though, I'm very free outside you'll wonder if truly I'm an introvert. But such days rarely come.
I like to think of myself as a public introvert now. A term or title I learnt from my friend @anyadan. He's an introvert too, but call himself the "Public Introvert". It's a cool name/title.
I still dislike parties and social events. I only enjoy or attend the ones where I'm working as a photographer.
Well, there you have it. The story about my journey to becoming an introvert.
PS: I'm still a big boy. But I don't let small talks get to me. 馃榿馃榿馃榿
If you are an introvert that read this post, I'd love you to leave a comment about why/how you became an introvert.

In the next episode I'll be talking about my preferred career choice as a kid, and why it didn't happen.
