This time is a typical indonesian music: Dangdut Jawa "Ojo suwe suwe"
Dtube Video:
We'll take a little break for the rock music and now I'd sing and dance with my little imp.
This song is a typical Indonesian music called "dangdut" which is not only performed in a concert but also often performed in a wedding or circumcision party among indonesian folks (but not among the so called "high class" society :-D ).
Indonesians love to invite either a live band, single show organ with singers, a classic oper like ketoprak or wayang orang or a puppet show called wayang kulit (mostly in central and east java, the puppets are made of leather) or wayang golek (in west java, the puppet are made of wood).
All those traditional show is really expensive because the master show is an expert, it takes a group of traditional music player to play, and the puppets alone are already extremely expensive art work ( I have only a single one leather puppet figure of Jatayu, an eagle from the epoch "Ramayana" hangs on my living room. It had costed me around 250€ 5 years ago).
This is my "jatayu":
There are of course product series offered in different quality. You could find the lest costly one in a souvenir shop, but if you really want to buy in the quality standard which is required by such show master, then it is really expensive).
Imagine that for the show you'd need more than 100 figures and then the nature figure etc. as well, additionally the show would take hours. It starts normally aound 10 - 11 pm until dawn. So it's just normal that it's expensive.
Wedding party in Indonesia could be really...really costly.
Nowadays there is less and less family in Indonesia would call wayang kulit show for their party, especially when the youngsters recently are getting less and less fond of their own traditional culture.
Calling a singer and a band is less costly compares to calling a traditional theater troupe like that.
Moreover the audience could sing and dance together with the musician :).
Sometimes I really miss my childhood, my father has always brought us to watch puppet shows.
You might call it inappropriate for children to stay awake that long for the sake of the show, but I'm telling you...
we (I and my brother) were really happy. :)
Those were my most beautiful memories in my childhood with my daddy.
And my daddy has often bragged in front of his friends that his children could recite the mahabharata and ramayana epoches and recognise the figures hahaha.
To be honest, I could perhaps only recall 40 percent of it now.
Nowadays such a show is getting very rare. You might only watch the good quality one in the palace Yogyakarta or in the events financed by the government.
My uncle and his wife were making a living by playing a "ketoprak" show, my father had also once played but only for a short few years.
But well...enough with the story, let's just enjoy the music, although this is the modern one (the language used in this song is a mixed one between Indonesian national language and javanese).
Next time I'd sing the traditional one. :)
