We observe a lot of things on a day-to-day basis, some catch our attention and some don't. The ones which catch our attention, either turn out to be something valuable or in some cases causes distraction.
If we judge it on the basis of time, if time was wasted, it was a distraction and if it was utilised, it was an opportunity. But in both cases, whether distraction or opportunity, we have to spend time to figure it out, without spending time we cannot come to any conclusion.
So till the time we haven't come to any conclusion, we will not be able to decide whether the time was wasted or utilised? It is only when we find the outcome as positive or negative, we see it as an opportunity or distraction?
We have to go through the process, there is no shortcut to arrive at the conclusion without spending time on it.
Can we decide in advance whether the forthcoming situation would end up as a distraction or opportunity?
If we are not pursuing things which we want to, fearing that time would be wasted, we are in another way avoiding opportunities too.
There is no heads or tails if you are not flipping the coin in the first place.
If you want to do it, give it a try.
What seems like an opportunity today, can be of no use tomorrow and vice-a-versa, so let's enjoy the process. Let's not be so harsh on ourselves, learn whatever we want to. Overthinking about the outcome may stop us from initiating.
The question to ponder:
If everything teaches us something, how can be something a "waste" of time?
If you say that time could have been utilised more efficiently we must understand that there is no definition of more or less, something which is more to you can less to others.
