Hi @homesteadersscoop (@nateonsteemit)! That is okay, I enjoy any and all questions.
The breed of cows we have are called Dexters and we have been with this breed for maybe around 3 years. We currently have 1 breed bull, 5 cows, 5 heifers of various ages, and 2 little bull calves. They are a shorter heritage breed that are a dual purpose for both milk and meat. Since they are smaller than breeds like Angus or Holstein, they also require less pasture.
They are supposed to be a very hardy breed, so we have not done any line breeding. The only time I have heard of people using line breeding in this breed was to bring out desirable traits for color, milk protein, polled, etc. Ours are all Red, A2/A2, and Homozygous polled which are the traits that we really wanted to have.
If you have any other questions, let me know and I would be happy to try and answer them! Thanks for stopping by!
