A friend of mine is currently looking for work, just any kind of work at all to earn money. Each time she brings up the topic to me, I always shade her on how she's turning down the offers that have been coming her way despite how desperate she is to get "any kind" of work.

"What do you mean I should go and do a job that pays 30,000Naira a month? Do you know how much transport costs?" she would counter my shades anytime we start dragging the topic.

But that's absolutely true. In the current state of the world, I mean, in my part of the world, going into a corporate job with the "fair pay" of 77,000Naira to 100,000Naira won't allow a single person living alone to survive, considering how much of the money will be spent on transportation and other basic things required to make the work go smoothly. This is one of the reasons people have decided to settle for the trend of working from home. Most of the time, the pay is higher than the average pay in corporate jobs, depending on the job and the company. I remember four years back when a friend told me she was earning 250k per month while working online, and she wanted to get me involved, but my laptop was faulty and a phone wasn't ideal for such a job because of the features they used for the work. To earn 250k in a month six years ago wasn't a child's play. 250k was well valued compared to the value of the naira now.
That lady now, will never buy into the idea of doing a 9-5 job except the pay is heavy.

Is the trend of working from home the right path?

In normal circumstances, another major reason for the cry and need for corporate work is that it keeps the first and well-known means of human socialisation alive. In a good working system, the liveliness of the social well-being of workers is always high. Although this tends to go the other way when the workplace is full of negativity, and this makes people these days prefer to work from home and desist from socialising with negative people.

But then, the world has adapted a lot to the virtual format, where people no longer need to see each other physically before they can bond and socialise. So yeah, this trend of working from home is not bad, and if it's going to completely chase off the method of corporate work, then so be it, and it wouldn't have much effect. After all, the world is like a train, and everyone is on the train. If anyone decides not to follow, it means the world will leave that person stuck.

But then, the biggest "koko" is, I hope the job people are doing from home is really paying well and not just someone settling for pennies all in the name of working from home.
