Let's say you opened a new shop, stocked it well with items worth millions of dollars, and then one day, you get to the shop and discover that armed robbers have entered through the ceiling of the building and packed everything away.
Hold on, by the armed robbers passing through the ceiling, it means they probably have their ways around the building and possibly have people who live close by working with them.
Then, you cried and cried, prayed to God to come to your rescue, and cursed the armed robbers who did that. You're sure that God heard your prayer, but you also know that there is a tendency for the culprit or culprits to ask for God's forgiveness, and God will forgive them before even the curse gets to them. The 100% forgiving and merciful nature of God makes a lot of people discard the idea of following God's path when seeking revenge whenever something like this happens.
I came across a post on Facebook on Saturday where a lady's shop was completely swept clean. Everything in her shop was packed away by the robbers. She didn't cry much. She just went straight to one of the most powerful deities in Edo State, Nigeria, which is known for seeking revenge for people, consulted them, and made sacrifices in the shop so that the deity would go after the people who robbed her shop, the people who saw or heard about the robbery but refused to say anything, and even the family members of the robbers.
The deity priest and the followers came in their red costumes and with fetish substances to the shop to perform the sacrifices, and everyone around the area witnessed the event. With that, fear will grip people around that vicinity who probably knew about the robbery but decided to keep quiet so as to cover it up.
"Haaaaaa! Is that not too far? Why can't she leave vengeance to God?"
These are the words that come out of the mouth of everyone who hears about the situation.
But then, if the deity actually works as they describe it, I think I love the idea. It's not like I'm choosing a deity over God; I just love the fact that everyone who is involved or heard about the robbery will be touched, including the family members of the robbers.
