Even to this day, each time I remember that I left the professional field I studied in school to pursue a life of "hustling," it pains me a lot to think about how my father cannot boast about his son having a profession associated with his name. African parents love it so much when their children have notable professions such as doctor, engineer, banker, etc. It gets out of hand when parents have children with these notable professions who also work abroad. The parents' shoulders will always be raised and can never come down.
So, this explains my reason for wanting to change my profession to become a pilot. The sole reason is to make my parents very proud.
If, by any means, I succeeded in changing my profession and my parents didn't know about it throughout the process of my schooling and training, only to find out when I was already flying planes in the sky, I believe they would be very proud. Even if I didn't give them money, or even if I wasn't making enough money from the pilot job to fend for them, the mere thought of their son being a pilot would make them feel okay, and they wouldn't have to worry about whether the money was coming in or not.
Apart from this reason and the handsome pay that comes with the profession, being a pilot attracts a lot of respect. Over here in my part of the world, we see pilots as extraordinary human beings, even though they do what appears to be just a little work of pressing some automated buttons to control an aeroplane, compared to professionals like doctors and engineers, who are more hands-on and crafty in their jobs. But the respect pilots receive is just too huge. This makes being a pilot a "mighty" thing for parents to behold. Lol. I also want that respect for myself.
Another angle to this is my love for nature, especially the clouds. I haven't been up there even once, and I have watched countless videos of planes flying above the clouds. I really wish to be up there one day, not just as a passenger in an aeroplane but as the person flying it, too.
