Marriage is a serious institution that can make or break an individual. It is meant for mature minds. Note that maturity here has nothing to do with the age of an individual. But has to do with the development of the individual's mind. A person might be 40 years old but still think like a 10-year-old child.
What is marriage? to me I would say that marriage is a union that is backed by the law which makes a two individuals become husband and wife.
Most people would tell you their experiences in marriage, and you would then understand that they were not ready for the journey ahead.
First, you have to understand that you are going to be with someone who has a different character from yours and comes from a different background. You must develop a certain level of mental toughness; if not, you might end up regretting marriage.
I have been married for 11 months now, and it has been an awesome experience. I have learned a lot of things and unlearned others.
Is marriage what I expected? I would say yes. Before getting married, a lot of people gave me advice on how I should live in my home. They all shared their different experiences. I won't lie, those advices were all good and helpful, but what I have also known about marriage is that two marriages can never be the same. What works for Couple A might not work for Couple B.The two individuals involved in marriage have to know what they want and chart their own path.
Before getting married, I always had this belief that I should not look at my partner's weaknesses but rather her strengths and compliment her in her areas of weakness. This has helped me a lot. Being that there are certain things I'm good at and my wife struggles in that aspect, I'm always ready to help her out. And she always comes to my rescue in those areas where I have weaknesses.
Like I said earlier two marriages can never be the same, but there are lessons I have learnt which I know would be helpful to us.
One needs to be patient with his or her partner. Sometimes we need to understand that he or she is coming from a different background and might behave in a way we don't like.
Communication is key if one wants to succeed in marriage. You have to always keep your channel of communication open with your partner. This will help to build trust. Also the way or manner we relate a message across also matters. Sometimes you might have good ideas but your tone and manner of approach can make it look bad.
One must be open to learning new ideas. Some times there is a way we do certain things and feel that's the best way to go about it, but if your partner suggests a new way of doing a thing, give it a try and see if it's better than yours. Don't just discard your partner's idea as not important or necessary.
Always spend quality time with your partner. Sometimes we are so busy trying to earn a living that our relationship suffers. Spending time with our partners will help strengthen the bond.
Avoid keeping secrets. Secrets have ruined a lot of marriages. We all have some skeletons in our cupboards. It is better if we let our partners know about those things we are not proud of. It is better they hear it from us than find out from a stranger.
Appreciate your partner. Let them know how beautiful they look and how you appreciate their little efforts. This might not seem important but it might go a long way to tell your partner that you care about those little things.
Accept responsibilities. Most times we tend not to accept responsibilities, we just want our partners to figure things out by themselves. This attitude isn't good. Everyone should try and play their own part in marriage, it will make it enjoyable and not burdensome.
Forgiveness is very important if one is to have a beautiful marriage. One must understand that there will be arguments, disagreements and hurt. We must be ready to forgive our partners and keep building on our marriages.
I have learnt that marriage is a beautiful institution where love exist, fun and educative. Marriage is delightful and wonderful. Marriage has its own down time but one must always look at those beautiful moments and cherish them鈾ワ笍鉂ｏ笍馃槏.
