It's been two days that I decided to do nothing. I was half crazy on reading so many articles on Frankenstein by Marry Shelly and Passing by Nella Larsen.
It was my first semester in a graduate course. When starting the semester, no one told me it will be hard to attend two novel classes at a time. I thought everyone pulls an all-nighter to cover reading materials. I read three 19C English novels, Frankenstein, Mansfield Park and The Mill on the Floss. I can't even come up with the novel titles that I read for Harlem Renaissance Literature class. It was around 5, 6 novels.
When it comes to studying literature, dealing with text is everything from the first to the last. You have to read the novel first and the articles with different aspects on the text. Marxism, Feminism, Post-Colonialism and other theories are bugging you. Then you have to produce your own criticism. You are required to be a bit creative while following all that follow precedent studies. And it is not a blog posting. The MLA form is also there if you study literature, philosophy or languages.
It was definitely hard to write two articles with 10-page length in short period of time. I made more than 25 references. English and Korean translated.
A professor like my idea in my criticism on Irene in Passing. He suggests that I should revise and develop the idea and go to a conference with it. He would help it and it is next semester. I hope what he thinks of my article would turn out all right. That's all for now. I want more rest.
If you find it hard to understand at certain point, it will be very nice of you to point it out for me. I am really tired now I would have made some mistakes in describing.
