Ive become a bit obsessed with this virus pattern. The way it knits up is beautiful and the colour combinations are endless. I made this one using womens institute premium acrylic dk yarn in 4 colours with a 3.5mm hook. I repeated each colour twice for a total of 8 pattern repeats.
I wanted a slightly different border to the previous version, but nothing to pull the eye away from the pattern itself. For this border i replaced the final round of the last repeat (the loopy round) with a picot repeat as follows:
- join last round with a slip stitch to 3rd chain of start ch4. Ch5.
- sl st in 4th chain from hook. Ch1
- skip 1 ch space in previous round and sc into next space. Repeat until at gap between two fan shapes. Last crocheted sc should be in 9th ch space. Create picot, skip 10th ch space of this fan and 1st ch space of next fan, sc in next ch space.
- right all round, sl st in next st and fasten off.
Ive gently blocked this one by spraying with water then ironing with a towel over the top, and it has really made the stitches pop!
If there are any questions about the border pattern, please feel free to comment and i'll try to help out. The virus pattern can be found at youtube as a great crochet-along.
