I mentioned in my introduction that i get to travel around scotland a lot for my work. I am a biologist in the aquaculture industry and my sites are located far and wide along the west coast of scotland in some of the most remote, rugged, beautiful areas. Sometimes its easy to forget that there is so much wildlife and nature right outside yoiur door, so i wanted to share a few pics of some of the delightful birds and beasties we've snapped around our home. There may be a few obligatory kitty pics, but please humour me :)

Our bird feeders are always chocka with loads of wild birds, but we had a special visitor for a few weeks in the spring - woodpeckers! We could hear them knocking on trees around the house, then amazingly they touched down and frequented the peanuts. Havent seen them for a while, but hopeful they will be back when food is scarcer :)

Recently there have been lots of lions mane jellyfish in the waters around our sites. They can cause stinging damage to the fish in large numbers, especially if the tide pushes them against the nets, but this doesnt stop them being very beautiful in the water. Ive seen them ranging from a few centimetres across to a metre! Those tentacles can be metres lon and pack a nasty sting!

Finally, i couldnt help but share this! Ayla, the normally shy retiring type, has Leeloo in what i like to describe as an aggressive cuddle :) Leeloo does not appear impressed, im sure you will agree!

Hope you enjoy!
