Ever wondered why the Christian faith frowns against certain attitudes and characters, I mean can't we just be allowed to live as we want following Jesus at the same time?. As a teenager, I must confess I found myself asking this particular question. That was because living right became burdensome to me, and I thought it would be better if there was a better alternative to serving God and enjoying yourself with worldly things. But with time I discovered that there's really no joy in doing these things. Neither can one ever find satisfaction in them, you just keep wanting more and more until it consumes you.

These were the things I thought about when I listened to Brother Eli's teaching today concerning walking on the old path. This generation wants to find new ways of doing a lot of things, especially in serving God, which isn't bad, except that many of their aims just like mine some years back were to avoid the old ways and laid down principles of Christianity because I felt it was burdensome. These people are only looking for what suits their ambitions and try to cleverly tie it to Christianity forgetting that the scriptures clearly instruct that we should never forget the old landmarks our father's created. The scriptures clearly stated also in Jeremiah 6:16
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said We will not walk therein. (KJV)
From here we can clearly see that there are many ways, or should I say there have always been many ways to do things, But God speaking through the prophet Jeremiah says if we must find rest, then the only way we can is by asking for the old path. But then again, why the old path? Because I talk about That, let me point out what Brother Eli said about the other Ways in Isaiah 56:11
Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
So again we can see from the scriptures that most of the people doing these things are greedy, and the Bible even refers to them as greedy dogs seeking their own way. They could be shepherds (pastors) who are only serving God for what they can gain and nothing more. According to Brother Eli, they are those who use religion as a means to profit not caring about the negative effect it would have. They love money, and according to Ecclesiastics 5:10, they can never be satisfied with it seeing that they pay too much attention to it, the more they want it the more they can't get enough of it.
WHY THE OLD PATH
EPHESIANS 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
According to Brother Eli, the old path is simply the ways God has ordained from the very beginning. It's the way Paul the apostle and the other disciples and apostles walked in. They are the Doctrines of Jesus Christ himself which form the foundation of Christianity that we must abide by always if we are to find rest (the peace of God that passes human understanding). The truth is there's no rest or peace outside God, and whatever the world has to offer can never satisfy that's why the old path (the way of Jesus himself) is the right path.
These are some of the lessons I picked from brother Eli's teaching today and I hope you found it edifying. You can also watch the teaching below if you want to know more.
