You know this isn’t a topic people often talk about, however it is a very important one. A lot of people go to prison and their entire life is ruined not just because they went to prison but because of the kind of people they ended up meeting in prison. This is something very crucial and it would be great if governments really begin to look into it. There are people who need rehabilitation and there are those who really deserve to be in prison. There are prisoners who truly regret the things they have done, probably in anger, and there are those who would never change no matter where you put them. Lets not forget there are those who have even been in prison and have not been tried in court for once, and there are those who were wrongfully convicted.

The fact is that we all know that even the sole called justice system isn’t fair, so we can not count on it for fairness, but then again this doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be a system set up to tackle some of the concerns people have. Although it might not fully remove the unfairness in the system, it would give some people who would never have gotten any chance little hope that they would come out better. I do not believe that every crime carries the same weight, and I also do not believe everyone should be treated in certain ways because of the kind of crimes they committed. If there is one thing I believe, it is that anyone can change if given the chance. But this can only work for those who were not given a life sentence. I think that the first place any prisoner should go should be a rehabilitation facility, their result should determine where they go next.

But then again I understand humans can be very smart and even outsmart the professionals. But at least this would give a huge number of innocent people or repentant people a chance. Some might go to rehab, and if they do not do too well or perform average in rehab can be sent to prison. But then again I think prisons should be sectionalized so that a common pick pocket does not get to suffer the brutality of a mafia lord who can kill without mercy even in prison. I believe some crimes that have light sentences can also be taken to rehabs instead of prisons so that they do not end up being exposed to a level of brutality that makes them worse than when they came. Some people would change under such a level of brutality though, but a lot just toughen up as their natural survival instinct. Rehab would help a lot of these people to be examined to understand their personalities which is something that doesn’t really happen in court. The court doesn’t care why a crime is committed, but the rehab would and that is a big difference that would help a lot of people especially knowing someone cares to listen to them.
