Power can be intoxicating, It can influence even the very owner. There are very few that can really control it, yet everyone wants it. Those who see power as a tool think they can control it, at the end of the day a lot of them get to find out that they are the tools doing the bidding of the power they are trying to control. Those who understand power however know it is an illusion. It is where people think it is not because of anything special. For example, the president is said to have power over a nation, but then he is like every single human, with one head, two hands and two legs. He eats and poops like every other human being on the planet. He is powerful because everyone decides he is powerful, not because there is really anything special about him. If he gives an order and the military and senate decides to stand against him, or no one in his cabal decides he should be obeyed, the power becomes useless in a matter of seconds.
Veto power is just the same. For example the President is said to have veto power, yet the senate can stand together and remove him if they do not see him as good enough to hold that power. This is why I call power in itself an illusion. But then again, illusions are what rule the world. Someone decides a piece of paper is valuable and they call it money. It’s just how the world works that is why no one can have absolute power because it is an illusion. In the world of power, there is always a loophole and that loophole is what makes the difference. Veto power is not absolute power that is why the President needs at least the majority of the senate and the military to be on his side else the power he thinks he has is gone in a twinkle of an eye. Those who really understand power will not strive to have veto power, because with great power comes great responsibility.
Some people might argue that no one should be given veto power, but let’s look at it critically, in a world where everyone has power, someone needs to have supreme power else they will all eat themselves alive. Someone needs to put everyone in check but no one can have absolute power because no one can contain absolute power. Even the all powerful genie is stock inside a lamp and can only show its power by doing the bidding of others. Check those with veto power, having to make the hard decision, having to choose between demons and devils. You choose demons and you are hated, you choose devil and you are a monster. Power has a price and veto power has a loophole. If anything, I pity those who have it and even more pity those who strive for it because when they have it, they discover that life would have been simpler if they never had it. But then for those that power controls, their greed will not let them drop it.
