Hello fellow Steemians,
Here is a poem I wrote a wee while back for NaPoWriMo. All my poems were based on famous paintings. This one is inspired by The Embrace by Egon Schiele.
The Embrace
Mostly the bed is in Vienna, the trenches slowly hemming
in, but some nights it floats to an abstract place where you die
happily, pillowed on auburn hair, bathed in the smell of her
soap, sweat, breath, sex. You draw yourself tumorous, body
bulging the seams, each gaunt muscle beached on her. The work
is softcore, less tumultuous fucks, feverish penises, women
on their knees more fanny than personality. Don’t worry:
None of us deserves love, but some get
lucky. Spanish influenza takes Edith, yet you refuse to break
the embrace, hold tighter even, and follow three days later.
