Today I got a Tarot reading done, and I hadn't had one in about 8 years, I was a little bit apprehensive about doing it, but I'm so glad to have gone for it.
Before I start, I just want to say, I'm not totally into this sort of stuff, I find it interesting and think we humans have a lot more power than we're led to believe. In saying that though, I am a little bit of a skeptic.
Holistic Fair
So, today the lads were around and we played the set a couple of times in preparation for the upcoming festival. After we finished up and they headed home, my partner's mum mentioned a holistic fair that was in town, since we weren't up to much we decided to head over.
It was pretty cool, there were people selling all sorts, from crystals to remedy kind of stuff, and around the perimeter of the hall, there were tons of readers, mediums, and people of that nature.
After perusing the snake oil, my partner's mum went and sat down with someone to get a reading done, and me and my partner sat with the baby for a bit then she decided to get hers done, so I sat alone trying to drop some eves, but I wasn't able to pick up on much more than disjointed words lacking any context.
They both finished their sessions and asked if I wanted to get one, which I wasn't sure about. While sitting there, I was thinking I would, but decided against it and we got ready to leave, and once we got to the car, I decided to just go for it.
The thing that changed my mind was when my partner was saying that she got a few messages from loved ones who had passed away, and due to the fact that over the last few years I've lost people close to me, and most recently, within six months of each other two friends committed suicide.
I wasn't expecting to hear anything in particular or see anything in the cards, but it was one of those moments where I was like, if I don't do it now I'll probably end up regretting it. So, as spur of the moment as it was, I went back in. The woman that my partner went to was packing up and getting ready to leave and I asked if she would be able to do mine, or is she heading. She reassured me it was fine, and she'd get her cards back out, but asked if I was sure about it, and said about the money already spent.
It was a kind of specific thing because when we got outside I mentioned to the others that I didn't want to do it, because 60 Euros seemed a bit much and the reader asked a few times before we sat down if I was sure.
Information Overload
Once we started the reading, I was told about a few aspects of my life, like the creative side of things, and some of my hopes, dreams, and aspirations.
I was ensured that what I'm doing right now is good, and not to feel burdened by not achieving enough, or doing things fast enough. She said by having the baby, obviously, he is our priority, and that the other things in my life have to take a slight backseat compared to the big change.
I've had so many things on my mind, so many projects on the go at once, and so much stress, as well as a slight feeling of doubt, and this uncertainty based around not finishing things soon enough. My mind was put at ease to a certain extent, and she said that I need to reclaim some balance, and asked about something in my life throwing me off balance; something that might be stifling me, and getting in the way of being productive.
After some thinking for a minute, I figured it could be the housing situation. At the moment, me and my partner are back and forth between each of our hometowns; we spend a week in hers and then a week in mine, and it's sort of hard to stay motivated and productive because once we settle in, we're on the move again.
She mentioned creativity and pulled multiple cards based on energy, and balance, and after pulling a grounding one, she advised that I try it out, focusing more attention on it to get my mind and spirit in a good place. Grounding is something I've never actually done, but it's something I've wanted to try out, just to settle the head and see if it helps.
Then she also pulled a health card concerning my heart chakra and said that I have some healing to do, but also said that in my life there is a lot of love, so it's not all bad.
People, and Advice
So, she is a medium as well as a reader, so occasionally she would stop and be in a world of her own for a moment and ask me who someone is, or describe a person.
At one point she stopped mid-sentence and just looked at me and asked, who's Jake? (Fake Name) I was like, oh that's a close friend of mine. She pulled a card and looked at it for a moment, then told me that he is kind of draining me, and since I'm sensitive to vibrations and other people's energy can throw me off, she said to be more mindful of it and safeguard myself.
This friend of mine is in a constant state of trouble, and he sometimes leans on me for advice, and support, which can be frustrating because he doesn't take any of the advice on board and typically falls back into the same old problems. Now, she said not to cut him out of my life - which I wouldn't anyway - but did say that I need to help him heal from a distance, and protect myself.
I nearly cried at the end of it and needed to hold myself back, it wasn't the initial reading or the messages from people I know. At the end of the session, she asked if I had any questions or do I feel if there was anything I didn't hear that I wanted to hear.
Instantly, I mentioned my nan, and said that I'd love to hear from her, then went on to say that I wish she could have met Kaleb, knowing how happy she would have been to see him.
She must have heard my voice shaking a bit and told me that she already met him, that she hugged, held, and knows him, and that her and everyone else connected to us, sent him to us.
It's a beautiful thought, and whether or not someone believes in the idea of all this stuff, I like to think it's true, and while I may not believe it 100%, I do think there's something to it, and even if it is just that comforting warm feeling you get from hearing nice things, it's worth it.
There was so much other stuff mentioned, some of it pretty personal, and some of it I have forgotten. I find that in the course of 20 minutes, you hear so much that it's difficult to take it all in.
Next time I do one, I'd really like to voice record the session just to review it after the fact.
I got her details and would go back to her next time. I asked when she'd recommend doing another one, and she said that a year would be good, and even said that I should reflect on each year a lot more. Which is a good point.
Since joining Hive, I do a monthly blog on Power-up Day, chatting about whatever's happened that previous month, I think doing that is great, but having a yearly one would be great too. Time flies, so it would be good to keep note of things I think.
