There are lots of different ways to try and get peoples attention on Instagram, most of the time it needs to be captured within a fraction of a second. So how would I maximise the chances of people not only liking my photo, but staying long enough to comment and even follow through to my website.

This will be the next photo I Instagram.

If I were to put this on Instagram it would be very small and would not occupy the maximum amount of phone screen real estate that is available. Instead, I'll crop a section of the image to a 4:5 vertical ratio that captures the essence of the image as much as possible.

Something like this:

at least 1080px wide

This is enough to get the scrollers attention, but I want people to see the whole image. So I'll make a slideshow where people can swipe to a second image. However, Instagram only does slideshows in the same crop ratio, so I have to make a 4:5 vertical crop of the full image with space above and below to fill the screen. My photo will still be the same size as it would if I just posted it directly, it's just a work around of Instagrams settings.

Like this:

at least 1080px wide

In my caption I'll give a brief description of the photo and suggest that people check out my website kieranstone.com if they want to purchase the print to hang on their wall. I'm not expecting many or anyone to actually go to the site from an Instagram post but if I don't have it there then definitely no one will.

I'll post a bit later today I think
