Today I would like to tell you a little bit about my new project:
After seeing some videos recently about building canoes and kayaks, I couldn't get rid of the subject.
The biggest difference to what I plan to do is that these boats can usually not be assembled, which is not bad if you own a piece of land on a body of water, for example.
Unfortunately, that's not the case with me, which is why I wanted to design such a boat to assemble.
Such boats are already available (folding boats) but in a price category that I am not willing to pay.
So, without further ado, I thought I'd design my own boat.
When I plan something like this, I usually first gather ideas and inspiration from others who have done something similar for at least a week.
I then put the first ideas on paper relatively quickly.
Now comes the step that I actually enjoy the most, namely printing prototypes until I am satisfied with the result at the end.
My preliminary plan is to build the skeleton of the boat out of PVC tubing held together by printed connectors.
It would of course be possible to print the connectors 3-dimensionally, but in this case there is always the weak point in one dimension, since that is where a break is most likely to occur.
So I decided to print everything 2-dimensional and then put it together.
The first attempts were already relatively promising and at the beginning I had the idea of
connecting the two parts with a plug-in system, but then somehow discarded this idea.
But after I held the various options in my hands, the connector was able to score the most.
I am convinced that it is easier to design something once you have picked up the parts and not just looked at them on the computer.
I plan to be able to print the remaining connectors in the next few days and can hardly wait to put the frame of the boat together for the first time.
