Well, the rain is here and the flooding has started. Rainfall for us in Lagos, Nigeria peaks around June/July and then we have what we call the August break, there is still rainfall during this period but it is not as intense as the peak period, then we have another heavy rainfall September/October after which the rain starts declining a bit.
We have been having heavy some amount of heavy rainfalls this year but that of yesterday was really heavy, it kept pouring down to mother earth as if someone had forgotten to turn off the tap. Lol. The yesterday came with it all the arsenals needed to create as much impact on mother earth as it could, heavy rain, high wind speeds, thunder and lightning were just enough to leave most parts of Lagos all flooded.
I went to a not too far local market today to grand some ginger we had harvested and dried because we use it during the cold season to prepare Ginger Tea. This gave me more opportunity to see the effect of the rainfall outside my community.
In my compound, the rain had flooded the whole of the garden, but because I didn’t put concrete on the floor or tile it, the rain drained off into the gutter outside and into the ground within 3 to 4 hour after the rain. It was not the same for some people that cast their compound with concrete or tiles, those made their compound look like a fish bowl and some remain flooded till the morning when I went out.
I reported yesterday in my actifit report that the wind blew down my pawpaw tree with so many fruits on it. Part of the tree landed on the house I use for my rabbit farm and a dwarf pawpaw nearby, the good thing is that nobody was injured.
This is just the beginning because the agency in charge of weather report has warned that 30 out of the 36 states in the country may be affected by flooding this year because of heavy rainfall. With Lagos bordering the Atlantic Ocean and most of the waters from hinter states running into the Atlantic through Lagos state then there is greater possibility of a bigger flood coming. Get ready.
