I've been employed as a full time nurse for a long time when a new dress policy was instituted to make our facilities more family and resident friendly and less of the sterile clinical atmosphere. Patients are referred to as Residents. So out with the scrubs, lab coats, uniforms etc and on with the street clothes we normally wear everyday. Now imagine me reporting in for my usual Night shift as a Goth, well let's say semi-goth since I did toned it down. I did get reactions. "Oh, so that is what you're like outside of work?"
