I currently take pride in being a history buff, but it wasn't always the case. I can still recall when I couldn't stand being involved in any conversation that is about history. I also didn't enjoy any literature that had to do with history.
To be fair, there are so many things which you can complain about if you are not a big fan of history. Aside from being boring, a lot of historical stories are told in ways that can be considered shit by today's storytelling standards.
Well, those days are far behind. At the moment, I enjoy digging deep into historical literature especially when it is adapted into Movies or Shows.
People can do terrible things to another person and it's weird how it doesn't take much provocation for them to do so.
This is so true...
History has shown that there were a lot of warring nations in the world. Even in a country like Nigeria, we have a record of Civil war between the major tribes in the country and this bad blood is still running wild to this day. On a grander scale, Countries invaded each other for several reasons and several people were subjected to death just because they said things as they saw it.
If you think I'm making any of these up, it only shows that you haven't been paying attention to history. There are sufficient data to back these things up and I'm personally interested in the history of Asian Countries like Japan & Korea, dating back to the era of Joseon and Qing dynasty.
Goodness, gracious... Shit happened back then. History was never kind to these folks. Make no mistake though, history has never been kind to anyone. Not to the Asians, Africans or even Europeans. Every nation has its bitter historical experience.
We had a lot of tyrants in history and we sure know how the end came for most of these tyrants. We also had several instances where the notion of "man's inhumanity to man" was stretched beyond imagination.
Just give a normal bloke power over a few people and he will suddenly become an executioner.
That's one of the things that history teaches us about humans. Well, is that any different from what we are seeing at the moment?
It's still a world where those with power can shit the bed and go unpunished. We still live in a world where people get nitpicked and censored for saying 'the truth' as they see it. Let's not forget the war cries. So many nations are still warring.
I wonder how this era's history will be viewed when the next generation reads about it.
