Visovac Monastery

The Visovac Monastery is really a Christianity monastery on the Visovac island in the Krka National Park, Croatia. Visovac Monastery has been inhabited by Augustinian monk since they first settled on the island in the 14th century. The monks that settled there fled from Bosnia during the 14th century Turkish takeover and built this monastery in honor of the Apostle Paul. The monastery was expended and reconstructed in the 18th century in response to its growing population and popularity. The monastery contains a museum, gardens, library and grand bell tower and it's surrounded by towering cypress trees. The impressive library houses rare manuscripts as well as a sword belonging to a legendary Croatian folk hero.
