Hello Bees! I hope you had a restful weekend. Sundays are my rest days and I spent the day relaxing and watched two movies! I'll share them with you.
(1) The Wrong Missy (2020)
This romantic comedy is about Tim Morris, who goes on a blind date with Melissa aka Missy, who turned out to be a nightmare and unlike what he expected. She was quite the talker and a bit loud. So he ditched her.
While at the airport, he accidentally meets a beautiful lady also called Melissa and they hit it off. They made out in a closet but did not go far because her flight was called. They exchanged phone numbers.
Getting home, Tim sends a text to the lovely Melissa that he would like to see her again. Unfortunately, the text was sent to Melissa aka Missy.
Tim's boss in the office invited everyone to an island for a retreat. Tim sent an invitation to Melissa to accompany him. While boarding, Melissa aka Missy shows up. Tim was shocked and realised he had been texting 'the wrong Missy' all this while.
Tim's colleagues mocked him all through the retreat but somehow, Missy bonded with everyone until an office rival revealed that she was not supposed to be at the island. Missy went through Tim's phone and saw a heartbreaking text showing where Tim referred to her as 'lunatic'. She packed her bags and left. In her absence, Tim discovered he missed her and had fallen in love.
He flew back, begged for Missy's forgiveness and they made up.
Review:
Though I laughed at some scenes, the movie was like a slow, lazy comedy. Like it was predictable. I knew Tim would send the text to the wrong lady and end up falling in love with her. Some of the scenes that the creators believed to be funny were nauseating for me. I rate the movie 40%. Rotten tomatoes gave the movie 33% and audience score was 50%
(2) Mortal Kombat (2021)
My brother had downloaded this movie into his pc, watched it and had been bugging me to watch it. Due to my busy schedule, I couldn't until yesterday. First, I am a fan of the Mortal Kombat game. I played it a lot when I was a teenager with my brothers using Sonya Blade, Kitana and Noob Saibot characters. Imagine my excitement when I heard the recent movie is out.
Plot
In the movie, two realms were portrayed - Earthrealm and Outworld. There are fight tournaments held where champions from both worlds would fight. Whichever world won the tournament ten times in a row would take over the loser realm.
The emperor of Outworld, Shang Tsung, sought to take over the Earthrealm so he sent one of his warriors, Sub-Zero, to go kill the bloodline of Hanzo Hasashi because of an ancient prophecy.
The movie starts with the fight between Sub-Zero and Hanzo. Sub-Zero kills Hanzo. The protector of Earthrealm, Lord Raiden appears and rescues the child of Hanzo. Years later, Cole, a descendant of Hanzo Hasashi is pursued by Sub-Zero. Jax rescues Cole and gives him directions to seek out Sonya Blade.
Cole finds Sonya and together with Kano, they find Lord Raiden and his warriors - Liu Ken and Kung Lao who trains them to find their arcana in preparation for the kombat. Emperor Shang Tsung and his warriors storm the Earthrealm and a fight ensued wherein Cole and reincarnated Hanzo aka Scorpion fought and won the battle.
Review
I so much enjoyed this movie and I will certainly watch it again. Though there were lots of violence and gore in the movie (reminded me of Game of Thrones and Avengers series), I was impressed with the fights and actions but the story was rushed. I believe there's a sequel on the way and hope it will be better than this one. I rate this movie 70% and recommend it for action-adventure movie lovers.
