I don't mean the Hive blockchain community per se. Although after reading this piece you could infer that it's applicable to our community. I also don't mean a flurry of activities which is what can be said about the Hive blockchain community - a place of diverse quality contents.
My reference to HIVE in this article is simply a place or nest where a colony of bees reside. I don't know much about bees but their lifestyle is similar to that of ants - they thrive in communities.
Every hive is made up of a colony of bees. A colony includes a bee queen, hundreds of male drones, thousands of female worker bees, eggs laid by the queen, larvae and pupae. Basically, a bee family. Two colonies cannot reside or make up a hive, it has to be one.
What makes the word COMMUNITY intertwined with the life of a bee is that in every colony, each caste of bee knows its duty and assigned tasks. The beauty of a hive is that every bee depends on its colony for survival. No single bee can make it alone. This is where the strength and importance of community becomes obvious and indispensable.
The word "community" is the combination of two Latin words - con which means 'together' and minis which means 'to perform services'. A common usage of community indicates a large group of people or living species with common identity and interests residing together in close proximity.
For communities to thrive, they must possess a common purpose which binds them together in unity to achieve their purpose. The common purpose is the glue. Without it, there is no community.
A hive exists because it is intrinsic in the nature of bees that to survive and thrive as a living species, they must work together as a community, each unit fulfilling its assigned task. They depend on each other to survive. It's like the division of labor in a community. If one section fails in its assigned task, it would affect the whole and probably lead to a breakdown.
Just as a queen bee, though very strong, cannot exist alone or build a new colony without the aid and support of the male drones and female workers, who provide fertilization, food and wax to construct the hive.
Just like the Hive blockchain community, we thrive because our purposes are common and intertwined. Both old users and new users need each other to survive and keep this blockchain going. The Hive blockchain is built just as a beehive - every section working in unity for the success of the whole.
In a way, the world is a global hive and we thrive as a living species because we work in communities. Breakdowns in the form of disputes, protests, crises, and war occur in certain parts of the globe because our purposes do not align sometimes.
