Hello Hivers! I'll answer this question from the blogging challenge part 04 which says - What's the most epic way you've seen someone quit or be fired? If you haven't, create a story.
Last year, when the covid-19 pandemic struck, lots of employees were laid off from work. People lost their means of earning income which they used to take care of their families. In our world with the presence of global inflation, employees should learn to value their jobs and hold onto them.
I have been to some offices and seen how some employees handle their jobs is painful for me. They have this negligent and indifferent attitude to work. I wonder what if these same people are fired, they would beg and grovel to get their jobs back. Why not do their jobs diligently so as not to lose them?
To answer this question, I do not need to make up a story because an incident happened in an office I worked at before I moved to where I am presently. We had this diligent young man whose job description was the dispatch man. He would take out letters and packages every morning to deliver to our clients all over the city.
He knew the nooks and cranny of the city like the back of his hands. But he was underpaid. We were all underpaid then. We had been clamoring for a salary increase for a while but management did nothing about it except make promises.
This young man got fed up one day because his young wife was heavily pregnant and her due date was close. I guess he was anxious and frustrated. I was in my office when I heard the commotion. I ran out and saw this young man in a fight with the accountant! LOL! It was not funny at the time.
You see, this accountant was an annoying person and had a way of getting on one's nerves. I guess the young man had had enough. He squeezed the accountant's shirt and jerked him up, then punched him on the nose!
Other men in the office intervened and quickly pulled the young man away from the accountant. By then, blood was gushing out from the accountant's nose and splashed all over the office.
It was a scary sight that day. No one expected that something like that would happen in an office where we were expected to be civil to one another. The accountant was rushed to the hospital for treatment while the young man tendered his resignation letter.
I felt sorry for the accountant but in a way was glad the incident happened because the management had a meeting the next day and reviewed our salary upwards. Also, the young man was recalled back to work because it was difficult to get a dispatch rider who was that dedicated to his work. This young man's diligence to work paid off.
