Happy Saturday Hivers!
I remember five months ago, before we started our garden, my mother bought sweet potato tops for the utan Bisaya she was cooking. She was quite surprised by the price because each bundle cost ₱20.00. She then said that we really needed to start planting our own vegetables because food and produce at the market had become so expensive.
Do you know that sweet potatoes were the first crop we planted when we started our garden? My mother simply couldn't get over how expensive sweet potato tops had become. A small bundle cost ₱20.00, yet it contained only a few tops. That experience convinced us that it was time to grow our own vegetables instead of buying everything from the market.
Just a few months after we started our garden, we gradually noticed a decrease in our food expenses because we had already begun harvesting some of our vegetables. One of the great things about gardening is that certain vegetables can be harvested just two months after planting. Seeing fresh produce come straight from our garden to our table has been both rewarding and cost-saving.
Just like yesterday, we harvested more vegetables from our garden to add to the meal we were cooking. After only a few months of gardening, we have been harvesting regularly. Aside from vegetables, we were also able to harvest watermelon. Because of that, the money we would have spent on fruits this week was saved.
Looking back, starting a garden was one of the best decisions we made. Not only does it provide us with fresh and healthy food, but it also helps reduce our household expenses. Hard work really does pay off.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
