An older relative of mine went to Italy in the 80s and had a few extra coins he brought back. Just recently he was going to turn them in to get some American money but I stopped him. I asked him politely and he knows I collect coins so he gave them to me and I researched the value of the older coins in the lot.
The most valuable one is this 1955 100 lira coin. It has a face value equal to about $0.06 usd but its numismatic value far exceeds that. This one is both the first and rarest coin of the series. Coins in the series were made from 1955-1989 and had a mintage up to 350,000. The 1955 has the lowest mintage (excluding proof coins) being 8,600,000. Since my coin is in very fine condition, I estimate its value to be $10 usd.
