Yesterday I got within 10 feet of group of Anna's hummingbirds.
Female Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna)
What a thrill it was to get so close to a charm of hummingbirds... that's the name for a group of these birds. There were eight or ten birds zipping around some flowering bushes and trees and I was able to fire off at least a hundred shots with many keepers.

The Mature male has a larger area of iridescent colour that extends to the top of its head.

Females are metallic green on their backs and silver or gray below. Even though I was very close to the birds I had to crop these images drastically in order to show them at this scale.
