Two days ago I was walking around with only a short zoom lens on my camera when I came across three adult Osprey putting on an airshow. Their scientific name is Pandion haliaetus - they are commonly referred to as western osprey or fish hawks or sea hawks.
The birds were flying around in big sweeping circles. I talked to another photographer and he told me that one of the birds was an intruder... possibly a year-old osprey trying to return to the nest. The parents were not going to put up with this while they are taking care of this years chicks.
In this shot I managed to capture two birds directly overhead, one of them much higher then the other. These birds have a wingspan of up to four feet.
Today I returned to nest with my long lens hoping to capture some more in-flight shots but all I found was one of the adults minding the nest.
I don't know if there are eggs or chicks in the nest at this point.
One the way home I caught some shots of a nice robin on a fence post.
I believe the robin has caught a caterpillar for dinner. There are plenty of them around right now.
