The cherry blossoms are almost gone and it's time I wrote a post about it before summer starts and I forget about the glory that is spring.
This was my street just a few days ago before the winds brought down those blossoms in a snowstorm of tiny petals.
Without a doubt, springtime is my favourite season. The temperature is still cool, flowers bursting into bloom everywhere. Occasionally we'll get a light frost at night, but that's all over now. Suddenly it feels like summer, the change coming overnight it seems.
In the Fernwood square, the tower of the Belfry theatre seemed to float on a wave of cherry blossoms. Just last week they were filming a Netflix movie there and they carted in Christmas trees as props. I don't know how they reconciled blossoms with Christmas... just the magic of movies I guess.
A few days ago I captured this photo on the hill at the end of my street... the setting sun illuminating the blossoms, a tribute to the end of the season and perhaps the start of an early summer.
...and suddenly the tulips are here and the days are getting quite warm. I take my bicycle on long rides beside the ocean, dressed in shorts and a tee-shirt, no longer requiring the many layers of clothing I needed back in early April.
That's the way it is here in my sleepy little city beside the sea. A place where nothing much ever happens and we like it that way...
