Hi lovely hivers!
Well, it's the weekend and summertime, so I went shopping while it was still cool before the crowds and the unbearable heat. But there's good news: it's still (delicious) cherry season!
I thought that, like strawberries, the season would be short, with few opportunities to buy one of my favorite fruits at a good price at the market, savor them, and enjoy them fleetingly in spring. However, now in summer, I think this year's cherry season is spectacular because there are so many everywhere.
In fact, every time I go to the market, I see tons of them: large, inexpensive, and with a spectacular sweetness. It's impossible not to buy them; they're the star product these days. I thought there would be fewer now that other seasonal foods like melons and watermelons are arriving, but there are still plenty, and they're still very affordable, so it's impossible not to bring these delicious cherries home.
What I was saying is impossible to resist, so I went into the crowd, because everyone wants cherries. Who doesn't like cherries? And I brought back a lot, because they are a treasure that spring gives us. And we should be grateful; sometimes we complain about various things in our daily lives, when in reality we are privileged. Just look at how much reflection can be drawn from a simple purchase of cherries; I've been inspired.
So, besides buying other things I didn't want to show, because the cherries are the stars of the day, the shopping trip, and this post too, I arrived home happy. And I did what needs to be done, of course: wash them and put them somewhere ready to eat. Actually, you could eat them in so many ways; I'm even thinking about making a dessert, or mixing them with yogurt or something similar, but... why? Their flavor is already unbeatable, plus they're fresh, giving us a fresh and sweet sensation at the same time, and suddenly, we start eating them. And what happens, happens: you start eating one, then another, and another... they're irresistible. Can we stop, or do we have to go buy more?
They make you want to sit outside and eat them all; it's been a while since I've had such a good feeling with fruit, at least not in this summer season, so oppressive with the heat, the sweat, the people, the insects, etc. But we also have positive things and details, little moments that we should taste in every way, right?
So we'll see how long cherry season lasts. It's a good thing, because they sweeten the hot summer, bring us joy, and have helped me start the day in a happy and positive way. I also wanted to share these moments with all of you, and at least some photos of these huge and impressive cherries I have in front of me. Do you like cherries? Are they available at your markets this season? What other things make you feel this good in summer?
I'm reading your messages while enjoying, who knows, perhaps the last cherries of this delicious cherry season. Happy day!
