Statistics can be described as a science of data and it involves collecting, classifying, summarizing, organising and interpreting numerical information. The collection of all these data is to make decisions.

Data is a set of information which could be numerical or other forms.

Statistics is used in every field as it is used scientifically and non-scientifically.

The types of Statistics includes:

  • Descriptive Statistics
  • Inferential Statistics

Descriptive statistics makes use of numerical and graphical methods to look for patterns in a data set, to summarize the information reviewed in a data set and to present the information in a convenient form that individuald can use to make decisions.

Inferential Statistics utilizes sampled data to make estimates, descriptions, predictions and other generalizations aboit a larger set of data.

When we talk about measures of central tendency, we talk about the following:

  • mean: this is the arithmetic average of scores
  • mode: is the most frequently occuring score
  • median: is the middlepoint in an ordered distribution

When we talk about charts, we talk about:

  • frequency polygon
  • histogram
  • barchart
  • piechart, etc

In statistics, so many things are sorted for. To some extent, we have:

  • measures of variability
  • standard deviation
  • probability, etc

We use statistics in all aspect of love.
