Blessed weekend my dear and appreciated friends of NeedleworkMonday, I wish that these days are of peace, rest and tranquility. I, for my part, want to tell you about my experience with learning the miniature amigurumi technique. I have been practicing for several days with basic and simple projects, but yesterday I decided to knit a bear head, to advance a little more. I'll tell you that I ended up very frustrated and disappointed with the final result.
With this project, my main goal was to practice two important aspects when it comes to amigurumis; the first one is the elaboration of a fully round ball, since most amigurumis need a round shape to form the head of the character. The other aspect was the embroidery of the face parts, this aspect is the most difficult and complicated for me.
I practiced a lot so that the decreases would not be noticeable and I learned that there is a different way to knit the single crochet to make the knitting much tighter. From so many years of knitting, I didn't know that if we pass the needle over the yarn to pull the thread, the single crochet is much tighter and instead of forming a kind of "v" it forms an "x". I saw this trick in an amigurumi tutorial and it is ideal for projects with stuffing.
As for the embroidery of the face parts, I feel I failed completely. I felt very clumsy not getting a nice result. I consider that several aspects did not help me; mainly the material I used. It seems to me that I should use a thinner thread for embroidery than the one I used to weave the head. I also think that I should draw the face on a sheet of paper and guide me when embroidering. I hope the experts in the community can give me some tips.
Esto es toda mi práctica de la semana, espero sus sugerencias y opiniones. Gracias por leer, saludos y bendiciones.
I actually ended up pretty frustrated, so to lift my spirits, I looked up the picture of the Teddy bear I knitted for my nephew two years ago. I liked that bear very much, I was very satisfied and happy with the result. The difference is that on that occasion I worked with thick wool and modified the pattern to make the bear twice the size. On the other hand, I didn't have to embroider because I used plastic eyes. I think my forte is big projects, I feel like a fish in water with big needles and thick yarns, but I'll keep trying smaller amigurumis anyway.
This is all my practice for the week, I look forward to your suggestions and opinions. Thanks for reading, greetings and blessings.
