We called her Eunice, in Germany her name was Zeynep and in Scandivia she was called Nora. The storm which bugged half of Europe last Friday and Saturday leaving a trail of destruction seems finally over until tonight the wind will come back again.
4 deaths in Holland because of falling trees, large parts of England without current for hours, and the rooftile specialist having the busiest day of the year again yesterday. We are not that good in doing stuff with wind.
After the storm was over the dog was very much in need for a decent walk because the night before wasn't the best one for him. Only short walks avoiding stuff that was flying around coming off of roofs and pieces from trees falling down.
This was ofcourse also the perfect excuse to look around a bit and see what had all happened in the neighborhood in terms of damage. During the storm I heard a lot of cracking sounds in the woods with big thumbs afterwards which was the sound of the breaking of the resistance from the trees and finally the tipping over landing on the ground.
I found the sound of it was quite impressive
Yesterday felt like a lot of people were working on the damage control. I heard chainsaws like everywhere and I think a lot of this wood will be used as firewood for people in the upcoming year after it has dried for a couple of months.
The dog didn't mind ofcourse that there was so much wood everywhere as he was trying to drag and chew everything possible. Maybe he was considering taking a lumberjack job after all to also do his part in the drama.
I wasn't all that siked about the storm honestly. A part of the roof here also blew off and needed attention to prevent from more coming off. That meant we needed to go outside in the storm and fix that on the roof while the wind was pounding in gusts and stuff was also flying around.
With a little bit of hurricane Irma in the back of the head this brought back some memories of needed to take care of stuff while a storm is still going and I didn't like it one bit. I felt the jaw getting more tensed and the need for eating disappear. The signs of the body not wanting to cooperate. But with some music on and the curtains closed this also left again luckily, but you could it is still there in the back of the brain. The eerie feeling.
Luckily these storms are something different and it 'only' ended up like this and not with an aftermath for months. I guess we are all mentally reading for a summer with calm Summer weather.
