One of the must-do activities in Marmaris is taking a boat ride along the bay. At the port there are tens of options at a very reasonable price. There are party boats with loud music, pirate-themed boats, diving boats, pretty much any boat you could possibly imagine. How I picked mine for my boat ride? Only one of them has a glass bottom. It was easy.
OK, I typically never write a whole post on a single activity or service, but that one deserves it. Just to make sure, this is not an advertisement and I am not getting paid to write it. I just consider this my tip to the crew, who made our day so memorable.
The boat is officially named Submarine, but the shuttle bus driver who picked us up from our hotel shouted "Glass boat". That's the ordered chaos of Turkey that keeps surprising me. I will tell you more about it at the end.
We hopped on board about 9:00 and we set asail. The first stop was at the shipwreck. By tradition, the crew feeds passages of fish at one tiny bay where there is debris of an old ship while we are watching through the glass floor. The view is amazing. While I was looking for the most colorful fish, my husband was laughing at the sight of the ship's toilet - it was still standing there amidst the debris. Thank god kids on board were finding the fish more awesome.
After a short swim, we headed to the place we would stop for a lunch. Swimming after lunch was a bit hard, but the stone beach was a place for me to gather some raw materials for my next home decor piece. The next stop, already on the way back, was at the Pirates' cave. We were not allowed to swim in the cave but we made a 15-min stop to take pictures.
I just got dry when we headed to yet another beach. The tough part here was how my daughter reacted when she saw me swimming through the glass. Maybe she thought I was drowning or something, but when I got on board, she was sobbing.
The time passed really fast today. And at the end, when we wanted to pay for all the beers, coffees, juices and icecreams we had on board, the bartender just dialed a number and pulled our cheque. I never saw her put anything down - I just don't know how they are keeping up with their work.
As soon as we were back in the port, a boy was already waiting for us to walk us to our shuttle. No man was left behind among the crowd. What a wonderful day!
