It is well known that for those who enjoy crafts and more, one of the best allies is cardboard; a useful material that is available to everyone. Today I will show you how I made these beautiful decorative letters to spell out the word Aloha, and used them instead of a welcome sign at Rafaela's birthday party.

Es bien sabido que para quienes les gusta hacer manualidades y más, uno de los mejores aliados es el cartón; un material de provecho que está al alcance de todos. Hoy les muestro cómo hice estás hermosas letras decorativas para formar la palabra Aloha, y las usé en lugar de un bienvenidos en el cumpleaños de Rafaela.

The materials are basically cardboard and paper. In this case, brown crepe paper, different colors of iris paper for the flowers, jute cord, cold silicone, school glue, scissors, a craft knife, and, of course, cardboard.

Los materiales básicamente son cartón y papel. En este caso papel crepe color café, papel iris de diferentes colores para las flores, cordón de yute, silicón frío, pegamento escolar, tijeras, cutter y por supuesto, cartón.

I cut the cardboard into rectangles of the same size, approximately 20 centimeters high by 18 centimeters wide. The idea of having five pieces of cardboard for the five letters is so that they are all the same height. I didn't use a pattern, but drew them directly onto the cardboard freehand. I intentionally wanted you to have some freedom in the shape of each letter. Once the letters were drawn, I cut them out using a craft knife and scissors. I applied school glue and a rectangle of crepe paper to the letter, making sure that the entire letter was covered by the paper. Then, with scissors, I cut off the excess paper following the outline of each letter.

Corté el cartón en rectángulos del mismo tamaño. Aproximadamente unos 20 centímetros de alto por 18 de ancho. La idea de tener los cinco cartones de las cinco letras, es para que todas queden de la misma altura. No utilicé patrón, sino que las dibujé directamente sobre el cartón y a mano alzada. Intencionalmente quería que tuvieras cierta libertad en la forma de cada letra. Una vez dibujadas las letras, con el uso del cutter y las tijeras las recorté. Apliqué pegamento escolar y un rectángulo de papel crepe sobre la letra, asegurando que toda la letra quede cubierta por el papel. Luego con las tijeras recorté el sobrante de papel siguiendo la línea de la silueta de cada letra.

I applied the cold silicone along the edge of each letter and then glued the jute cord.

Apliqué el silicón frío siguiendo el borde de cada letra y luego fuí pegando el cordón de yute.

To make the flowers, we cut circles approximately 8 centimeters in diameter. Each flower is made up of three circles. First, we fold a circle in half, then in half again, and fold it a third time. We cut it in a curve, and when we open the piece, we are left with an eight-petal flower. To form the flower, we remove one petal from one flower, two petals from the second flower, and make only one cut in the third flower. We glue the petal we have cut onto the next petal, leaving us with a flower with 5 petals, one with 6 petals, and one with 7 petals.

Para hacer las flores, cortamos círculos de aproximadamente 8 centímetros de diámetro. Cada flor está compuesta de tres círculos. Doblamos primero un círculo a la mitad, nuevamente a la mitad y doblamos una tercera vez, cortamos haciendo una curva y al abrir la pieza nos quedará una flor de ocho pétalos. Para formar la flor retiramos un pétalo de una flor, de la segunda retiramos dos pétalos y de la tercera solo hacemos un corte. Pegamos el pétalo que hemos cortado sobre el pétalo siguiente y nos quedará una flor de 5 pétalos, una de 6 y una de 7.

We are not going to throw away the petals we have removed, but rather we will form a bud and place the flowers behind it in order of size, first the 5-petal one, then the 6-petal one, and finally the 7-petal one. This is how we assemble each flower. We cut out some leaves from the green iris paper.

Los pétalos que hemos retirado no los vamos a desechar sino que formamos un capullo y vamos colocando detrás las flores en orden de tamaño, primero la de 5, la de 6 y la de 7 así armamos cada flor. Recortamos algunas hojas con el papel iris verde.

Finally, we place the flowers and leaves as we like on each letter, and that's how we finish them. They look very pretty. They are perfect for any type of decoration if we change the colors and use a different type of string. Remembering that Rafaella's birthday was inspired by Hawaii, I thought this style of materials and colors was very appropriate. Finalmente vamos colocando las flores y las hojas a gusto en cada letra y así así las terminamos. Quedan muy bonitas. Perfectas para cualquier tipo de decoración si les cambiamos los colores y usamos otro tipo de cordón. Recordando que el cumpleaños de Rafaella estuvo inspirado en Hawai, este estilo de materiales y colores me pareció bien acertado.
