Alexandra Falls, NWT, Canada
Alexandra Falls is part of the Twin Falls Gorge Territorial Park, situated along the Hay River. It is a 103' drop, and in 2003, a kayaker was successful in paddling over the plunge.
A nice boardwalk runs alongside the river and there are a number of lookouts providing spectacular scenery. Eventually it takes you......
downriver to Louise Falls.
Traditional Dene who are the Native people of the area, say that the two falls are two spirits, Grandmother and Grandfather, and they protect the area.
We hiked up river as well and found....
a number of fossils. Mostly Brachiopods and a few worm like .....
creatures.
According to NWT law you are allowed to keep them. As each Province has different regulations concerning fossils.
The Hay River eventually ....
Looking South
makes it way North to Great Slave Lake.
It's a very remote area, and a true wilderness experience.
