40 Mile Creek
One of my favourite hikes takes me along the Niagara Esacrpment and down into 40 creek., which eventually empties into Lake Ontario.
The updraft from the escarpment provides an excellent route for migrating birds.....
every Spring and Fall.
An observation tower has been constructed and it is occupied with bird counters every day keeping a tally.
Rudimentary stairs have been constructed. which aids in the erosion caused by hikers on the steep slope.....The creek was.....
originally settled by 40 families who fled the U.S. after the revolution, because they were loyal to the Crown, and settled along the creek, which provided power for a .....
mill, to make flour. There was also salmon that ran the creek as well as fertile soil in the surrounding area.
