Bayroute - Epic Middle Eastern and North African food in Mumbai
It feels so good when one discovers restaurants that are absolute gems - everything about them is perfect, food, service, ambience. The same happened to me yesterday when my wife and I went out for dinner with my sister-in-law to celebrate her birthday.
The restaurant is located in the best office complex in Bandra Kurla Complex - Maker Maxity. In fact, it is right next to Pa Pa Ya, another gem and standing outside both makes for a very difficult choice.
The moment one steps in, the restaurant seems lavish and grand. It is very well decorated as seen in pics below.
Now, I have tried different middle eastern cuisines in London but never have I seen a menu as big as Bayroute's. They hand out 2 books, one for food and one for drinks. The unique thing about the menu is that it is in reverse, like how Arabic is written, right to left. The text is English, thankfully. 馃榿
We tried a variety of starters, couple of mains and shared a desert. A few things about the food in general - foid is really rich, and everything is made in-house, even pita bread and dips. The quality of ingredients is extremely good and service excellent. Sharing pics of the food we enjoyed -
Bayroute Hummus with Pita and Salad
The hummus had a very nice paste like consistency. The pita bread had a lot of flour on it, which I didn't like. Hummus was excellent, had tahini on top and pine nuts.
Grilled Salmon with Broccoli and Salad.. I know, Salmon?!
This and the third starter we had was great on taste but salmon and prawns aren't expected in Mediterranean places. I haven't seen it, at least. Not complaining though, best salmon I've had in a year.
Prawns grilled in butter, a lot of butter....
Moving on to mains, I had chicken and lamb skewers with Pilaf rice. Think about the best Mediterranean rice and meat dish you've had. This was as good, if not better.
My wife and sister-in-law shated a Falafel Pide. I had a bite. It was good, not something I'd order though. Thick crust and plenty of other flavours to enjoy in the menu.
After having a filling and great tasting meal, we decided to share desert.
Chocolate Fondant
The hot lava cake was great with salted caramel cheesecake icecream. To lower the sweetness, there was a 70% dark chocolate spread on the plate. Desert was heavenly.
I did not see the bill but it was less than $75, ~INR 5k. Do visit Bayroute, but remember, Do Not eat the mint chocolate and dates served with the cheque.
On a scale of 1 to 5, Bayroute is a Full 5
