Flowers are a reward for walking. I took a quick walk down the street before it became too hot today, or what my mom would call "a stinker of a day."
I always stop to smell the roses. Divine.
Then I returned home to have my coffee on the deck.
It was a year to paint the deck, done. I spray paint the table and chairs a little every year to keep them fresh, done. Now it's time to enjoy the benefits.
Finally, finished with the gardens. The periwinkle really took over while I was away last year and I tackled it -- I won. Now to plant grass seed where it was taking over the lawn.
My milkweed bed was overrun with violets. This week, I added zinnias, Mexican sunflowers, and pole beans. It's ready for the monarch butterflies to arrive.
This is a problem. My old air conditioner quit working after 30 minutes this year. A heatwave is starting but the new unit will be installed this week. (I nervously turn around to check the room temperature.)
I had wondered what happened to Munk, the little chipmunk. Would I ever see her again? Take a look under the bench. I'm not certain if it's her or one of her offspring but definitely a female. I watched her moving her babies earlier in the week.
The planters are done and will look beautiful soon enough.
And everything is planted out front. Now let's head inside.
I smashed my glasses this morning so I'm sitting at my computer nerd-like, glasses balanced on my nose with one arm missing.
With the air conditioning broken, I'm not baking bread. I'm not cooking.
This week, I made a mistake in my knitting and didn't discover it until 4 rows later after 4 rows where I had bound off. I haven't made enough really bad knitting mistakes to be good at fixing them, but after briefly thinking that I had enough wool to do a 3rd sleeve... I told myself not to be a chicken and I ripped out the 4 rows. Picking up the stitches was a little tricky and then I had to fix a bunch of dropped stitches, something I had never done, but the right number of stitches is on the needle again. Yay! Maybe some are still twisted but I can fix them as I go and that can wait until my glasses are fixed.
Yes, until the rising heat chases me downstairs, I'm playing the piano today.
