We have had a cool and wet spring, and our season is a week or two behind where it is typically. Still there are many flowers out. The early spring flowers are long gone and the lilacs are just past blooming - time for the next ones.
This is the best my bearded iris have been and they aren't all open in this photo. No sooner did they hit their peak than we had rain. We've had a lot of rain.
This is a kiwi vine I got from a friend, a hardy kiwi, and it's the first year it has really bloomed. I looked into growing them and I knew I wouldn't get fruit because they are dioecious, meaning, I would need both male and female plants. Still, what gender is it?
We peek inside the flower and see stamens. It's a boy! Hardy kiwifruit taste like regular kiwifruit but they're smaller and don't have the fuzzy coating. It's the vine on the right in the first photo, a beautiful decorative specimen with a few variegated leaves.
Cornflowers are so pretty with such interesting petals.
Somehow my garden has ended up mostly purple-blue and yellow. These are the chives in bloom. I also have spearmint, mojito mint, Thai basil, Russian tarragon, and rosemary.
There are small zinnias between the perennials and herbs, and they will bloom all summer.
And here is the one whose name I always forget. At least I'm consistent!
Moving over to the milkweed bed, the milkweed are thriving with tall zinnias planted amongst them and a row of pole beans along the back near the fence.
There is one Scarlet Runner Bean, below. I planted bean seeds in a glass container for my friend's pre-school class and kept one bean for myself so I would remember to ask about hers. She forgot to water them and you are looking at the only survivor.
I started it indoors because every other year I have tried to grow them, something digs them up and eats the seed from the young plant.
Here are the first flowers in the deck planters.
This is the reason I missed my #wednesdaywalk today.
It wasn't supposed to rain but luckily I spotted the storm clouds in the distance and stopped painting. The rain came after the stain had dried enough.
