This is my lastest update on Goldie an orange stray cat who was adopted by the fruit lady with a fruit stall by the Robinson mall. I have been dropping by several time at Robinson searching for Goldie at the steps of Robinson around the coffee shop. Twice I found her sleeping under the fruit lady stall but last week I did not see Goldie anywhere. Then, I went to ask the fruit lady just before she went home. She told me that Goldie passed away during her sleep a few days ago. I was speechless and just felt like crying. She told me there was need to cry or be sad; Goldie no longer suffered from her illness and she was in another dimension waiting to be reincarnated. I sadly walked away to look at those steps where I first met Goldie. Many pictures of her came back to my mind. Many people who used to greet her would be missing her and wonder where she had gone.

I went to take a look at Goldie’s usual resting spot every evening just to have a quiet pause and to say goodbye to her spirit. I felt very sad as there was suddenly a hole inside myself: I have lost a friendly cat-friend forever. I had no more Goldie to talk to whenever I visited the mall. But I had to accept that twenty-one years’ old cat with weakening health would not last another year. She had to leave her with out body to be reincarnated in another life time. We all have to leave our present physical forms one day. So, I went back to see the fruit lady to find out more about Goldie.

I did ask the fruit lady about the time of Goldie‘s death and where she was buried. She told me that Goldie was found dead in her box early in the morning when she opened her shop. Her body was buried near a public park under the bridge. Seeing that I was still very sad, the fruit lady invited me to look at the two new kittens belonging to the newly adopted stray cat. The mother cat recently had four kittens. She thought three kittens were killed by the black father cat. But it turned out that another kitten survived the attack.

The fruit lady noticed movements by the smallest kitten when they were about to be buried. So she took this one to the vet; the father cat bit through her throat and tongue. After a few days, the kitten’s tongue just dropped out of her mouth. So, this kitten has no tongue but she is very strong and daring. The black kitten was not bitten as he looks exactly like his father.

So, bad news of Goldie’s death has been compensated by good news about surviving two kittens. This has cost the fruit lady more expenses. I was surprised that she did not ask for reduction in the vet’s fees as these are simply stray cats. I used to request for fees reduction when I had to looked after six stray cats a few years ago, some friends also made some donation for these cats. But the fruit lady is happy to look after this kitten with no tongue.

Her sister is responsible for feeding the kitten in the evening while a regular customer has volunteered to feed this kitten in the morning. I am very impressed by these simple hard-working people’s kindness towards helpless stray cats and kittens. The mother cat is very lively and playful; she seems to feel very comfortable about having her kittens looked after by people at the fruit stall. The two kittens are very fast on their paws and keeps climbing out of the basket. Tiger, another adopted stray cat is now four months old; he still sleeps among the bananas and pomelos.

ในที่สุดวันนั้นก็มาถึง เราไปตามดูเจ้าแมวส้มชื่อทอง ที่หน้าห้างโรบินสันหลายครั้งมากในสองสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา เราไปหาคนขายผลไม้ก่อนเขากลับบ้านเพื่อถามว่าแมวหายไปไหน เราเดินหาไม่เจอหลายรอบแล้ว เขาจึงบอกเราว่าแมวตายแล้วเมื่อไม่กี่วันที่ผ่านมา มันนอนหลับตายไปเอง เขามาเจอมันนอนในตะกร้าของมันตอนตีสี่ ที่เขามาเปิดร้านขายของ เขาบอกเราส่าแมวมันไปสบายแล้ว อายุยี่สิบเอ็ดปีและไม่สบายด้วย มันไม่ต้องทรมานแล้ว แมวจะไปเกิดใหม่แล้ว เราก็เศร้ามาก ภาพของเจ้าทองในอดีตหวนกลับมาในความทางจำของเรา เราอยากร้องไห้แต่ก็ร้องไม่ออก ต่อไปนี้เวลามาที่ห้างเราก็ไม่มีแมวส้มมาคุยเล่นกับเราแล้ว

เขาเห็นเราเศร้ามากนัก เขาก็ลากกล่องใส่ลูกแมวออกมาให้เราดู บอกว่าลูกแมวเกิดใหม่สองตัวจากแม่แมวตัวใหม่ที่เขารับเลี้ยงดู แม่แมวจรจัดมาออกลูกที่ร้านผลไม้สี่ตัว แต่พ่อแมวตามมากัดตายไปหมด เหลือแต่ตัวสีดำที่เหมือนตัวพ่อ ตอนจะเอาลูกแมวที่ตายแล้วไปฝัง เขาเห็นแมวตัวเล็กสุดเคลื่อนไหวได้ก็รีบพามันไปหาหมอ พ่อแมวตัวสีดำกัดลูกแมวทะลุคอจนถึงโคนลิ้น หมอช่วยจนลูกแมวรอดชีวิต แต่สองวันต่อมาลูกแมวตัวนี้ก็สูญเสียลิ้นของมัน คนขายผลไม้บอกว่าลิ้นของแมวหบุดออกมาทั้งชิ้น เราตกใจมากเพราะแมวจะกินอาหารอย่างไรกัน เขาบอกว่าต้องป้อนอาหารกันตลอดชีวิต

เราก็เริ่มมีกำลังใจมากขึ้น ที่เห็นคนขายผลไม้มีลูกแมวน่ารักมาให้ดูแลใหม่สองตัว รวมแม่แมวด้วย และยังมีลูกแมวชื่อเสือที่มีอายุสี่เดือนแล้ว ในความเศร้าและการจากลาก็มีการเกิดใหม่และความหวัง คนขายผลไม้ต้องเสียเงินค่ารักษาแมวไปมาก เราเองก็ไม่สามารถช่วยเขาได้ เพราะเราก็ต้องดูแลแมวที่บ้านด้วย ตอนนี้ทุกคนต้องลดรายจ่ายกันเพราะรายได้หายไปมาก เราก็หวังว่าปีหน้าเศรษฐกิจจะดีขึ้นมาสักห้าสิบเปอร์เซ็นต์ เรามองดูแม่แมวพยายามจัดการลูกแมวแสนซนแล้ว เราก็ดีใจมากที่แมวพวกนี้มีที่พึ่งที่ดีมาก เจ้าลูกแมวที่ไม่มีลิ้นได้ชื่อว่าตัวเล็ก ส่วนตัวพี่สีดำได้ชื่อว่าสีนิล ตัวแม่ไม่รู้ว่ามีชื่ออะไร แต่เราเรียกมันเจ้าสามสี ตอนนี้เจ้าทองไปสบายแล้ว เราก็ขอให้มันได้ไปเกิดเป็นคนในครอบครัวที่ดึมีศีลมีธรรม ชีวิตยังคงต้องดิ้นรนกันต่อไป เราก็ยังมีเพื่อนแมวเหมียวเพิ่มขึ้น แต่เราก็ไม่คิดว่าจะสนิทสนมเหมือนเจ้าทองได้ แมวตัวนั้นมีความพิเศษในตัวเองมาก ทุกคนที่เห็นมันจะชอบมันทุกคน เราจะคิดตามดูความเป็นไปของลูกแมวที่ไม่มีลิ้นต่อไป
